The situation in the Amazônia right now is so fucking dire… my cousin’s boyfriend developed a breathing infection on Thursday. He died this morning. The town my grandma is working in has been in a state of emergency since Wednesday due to the fires. People cannot leave their homes without a mask on. They have been experiencing ashfall every single day. The rivers are so dry that boats can’t travel anymore (and boats are the main form of transportation in the Amazônia), and the region has barely had any rain in the past month. There hasn’t been any rain in the rainforest.
